Tigers hold on for OT win

A not-so-funny thing happened in the district opener with New Braunfels Canyon in the 48-45 victory in overtime to stay undefeated. After a smooth first half with the Tigers surging ahead 35-17, the second half was anything but smooth. It was a fumble here, an interception there and a mix of onside kicks. In all the Tigers gave the ball back to the Cougars eight times, mostly in the second half. In district play, the games mean much more and the effort will be more concerted and intense. It was good to hold on for the win, but the Canyon game should have gotten the Tigers' attention.

Cross country teams setting personal records

The Dripping Springs cross country teams had a banner day as they competed in the St. Andrews Episcopal Invitational. All of the teams competed hard and well, with many of the runners having personal best times. Three of the teams won their division and the other was second. Coach Morris made a statement that was the reason I appreciated the sport of track so much. She said all of her team participants competed regardless of position on the course and that is what I stressed to my runners. You can learn to compete at any level. Competing is not just between the top runners. A runner can make it a competition with the runner next to them even if it is for 30th place. The object is to give the effort to win that battle and not give up without a fight.

Crosscountry team has good run

It is one of those things that a program does when it is one of the best in the state. They head out and find the best meets to compete in. On this day it was the Lucas Lovejoy Crosscountry Fall Festival. Dripping Springs headed up that way with twenty runners to take on competition that included nine of last year's top ten teams. They would enter the boys and girls elite 5K division and both came away with fourth place finishes. Medals were given to the top 20 finishers in each division with Karsten Bobb and Brant Melton earning one. There were 147 racers in the girls division and 196 boys. Below is the result of those races.

Tigers subdue Lions

Going into the third game of the year against Lockhart, the odds-on bet was the Tigers would remain undefeated and continue their domination of the Lions. DS holds a 9-2 edge and extended it to 10-2 with a 49-15 win. It was the final contest leading into district play against Canyon Friday night.
