The League of Women Voters – Hays County (LWV) held its annual meeting virtually on May 13. They elected new board members, including the first Black and Latina officers. Leaders recognized the local League’s hard work in a tough year.

Governor Greg Abbott hosted a Border Security Summit in Del Rio last week where he announced a new comprehensive border security plan to crack down on illegal border crossings in Texas. The Governor was joined for the summit by Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, Major General Tracy Norris of the Texas Military Department, and Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw.

The Dripping Springs City Council on Tuesday proclaimed June 19, 2021 as Juneteenth Freedom Day and invited residents of Dripping Springs to “honor this significant date - the oldest known celebration of the end of slavery in our nation - in recognition of a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today.”
