City works budget, aims for lower tax rate or no effective increase

The City of Dripping Springs City Council held a budget workshop during the regular meeting last week. The Council reviewed the assumptions and processes for the development and approval of the Fiscal Year 2022 Annual Budget. Included in the presentation packet were the Departmental Budget Requests for FY 2022, which is reviewed by the Mayor before being filed with the City Secretary. After the presentation by city employees, Mayor Bill Foulds Jr. said, “When I saw the appraisal values of being so large... I don’t think that’s right that we put that burden on our tax payers to have to pay... I wanted to see a budget that actually reduced our tax rate or had no effective increase. I still believe that as a fiscally conservative person. I’m hoping all the departments understand that when I look at this first budget, that it’s got a lot of new items and new expenses that I don’t think are justified. We’re looking at unprecedented times with the amount of money that we’re going to be receiving with people coming out of the hardest times that they have faced, and I’m not for just spending the money because the taxes say we have it. We need to be conservative, and I’m expecting all the departments to be.”
