Status: infested

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is warning boaters to clean, drain and dry boats this summer to help slow the spread of an invasive population of zebra mussels. Lake Brownwood, Inks Lake, and Medina Lake in the Colorado and San Antonio River basins are the latest lakes to receive the status from TPWD as ‘infested’. Infested status signifies that there is an established, reproducing population of zebra mussels in the lake.

Patriot Garden unveiled at Veterans Memorial Park

Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) members from the Dripping Springs Sarah Pound Chapter along with distinguished guests from National, State and District DAR, Kelly Schmidt, Director of the City of Dripping Springs Parks & Community Services, members of VFW Posts 2933 and 6441, members of the American Legion Post 290 and members of the EmilyAnn Choral Group gathered on Monday, June 14 at Veterans Memorial Park for the dedication and unveiling ceremony of the “Patriot Garden.”

PTSD Awareness Month aims conversation at children, teens

June is PTSD Awareness Month. Though most often associated with veterans who experienced atrocities of war, anyone, including children and teens, can suffer with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Children typically recover quickly from stressful events, but when it comes to severe stress, especially serious injuries, the death of a close family member or friend, sexual assault, living through a disaster, or witnessing a violent act such as a school shooting, children can often suffer the long-term effects of PTSD.
