Sports Opinion: Random Musings

Well sports fans, I am getting the same feeling I got during the spring sports seasons. The powers that be are back to dangling that carrot just out of reach when it comes to having fall seasons. Yes, everyone would like to go back to pre-COVID days and ignore the present situation but it is simply not going away until there is a vaccine. That is predicted to not happen until sometime in 2021. All of this calls for a huge amount of patience, a trait that many Americans have proven time and time again they are lacking. Ironically, the very people one would expect to be doing everything they can to be able to play are the very ones failing to follow the accepted steps to reduce the possibility of getting the virus. I prefer to follow the advice of those who have spent their entire career studying such things. Athletes are asked to sacrifice for the good of the team by their coaches, who have spent their careers studying their trade, so that should easily crossover to the area of our health as well. Small price to pay. We can force-feed sport seasons, but we know the virus will still be with us and it will be interesting how teams will look during the season as the infected and exposed have to be dealt with day by day and game to game. No doubt the sports world will be turned on its head for the duration of this setback.

Opinion: Random musings

The second half of the 1980's projected the growth of the district that has slowly gained. The 85-86 school year was the final year of being in 2A again and moved up to 3A. The new school site was completed and moved into that year as well. Dripping Springs struggled a little after moving up in classification until the numbers put them in the middle. There was also a name change as girl athletes became known as the Lady Tigers rather than the Tigerettes.

Student athletes earn academic All-State honors

The Texas High School Coaches Association announced its 2020 academic all-state teams for spring sports. In the sports of soccer, baseball, softball, tennis, golf, and track, 30 senior Tigers participating in spring sports were honored. To qualify for all-state recognition, seniors must have an overall gradepoint average of 93 or higher and be in good standing with his or her team. There are four levels of distinction: Elite, First Team, Second Team, and Honorable Mention.

Four senior athletes sign National Letter of Intent

Four Dripping Springs High School seniors have signed national letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. They are: Track athlete Christopher Cohen, lacrosse player Logan Crank, soccer player Elizabeth Jones, and cheerleaders Miracle Gray and Hayden Shields. Combined with studentathletes in the Class of 2020 who had signed on National Signing Days held earlier this school year, 27 seniors have now committed to continuing their playing careers at the collegiate level.
