After weeks and weeks of formal practices, the Dripping Springs Tigers were certainly ready to get a season started in this uncertain year for sports. No doubt, it was not the performance they expected when taking on the Kerrville Tivy Antlers in the home opener, delayed a month. In what happens in many cases of first games, the defenses were more ready to play than the offenses, which makes successful offensive plays more difficult. However, when the final seconds ticked off the old clock, the Tigers had secured a 14-0 victory and ready to move on.
Hays County voters who want to learn about the 2020 Parks and Open Spaces Bond that will be on the election ballot will soon see more information. An outreach and education effort to provide details of the proposed bond will be underway in the coming weeks leading up to the November 3 election.
The long-awaited cross country season finally got underway as Dripping Springs hosted their annual meet. Originally, it was to be held at the Dripping Springs Ranch Park. However, the heavy rains in the previous week had rendered the course too rain-soaked to safely use. After having waited a month to get their season started, the three teams wanted to have some competition and decided to compromise the situation. Although not ideal for the sport, Dripping Springs, Hays High and Hays Johnson agreed to hold the meet on the high school track. This did not allow the same type of race to get in their miles but it was competition to get the season started. It did skew the times to be faster than would be the usual. Here are the results of the Tigers teams:
No doubt, by now, many are wondering what is going on in the sports world, especially school sports. Some are playing. Some are not. The COVID world has really messed with normal these days. There are many states that have cancelled high school sports for the first semester as well as colleges. Texas, to date, for the most part is not one of them. The ruling body (UIL) for the public schools put in some variations that, for me, have remained somewhat strange. The schools in 4A and under, with some stipulations, were allowed to begin their seasons as usual in August, while the 5A and 6A schools were delayed a month until September.
