Opinion: Random musings

No doubt, by now, many are wondering what is going on in the sports world, especially school sports. Some are playing. Some are not. The COVID world has really messed with normal these days. There are many states that have cancelled high school sports for the first semester as well as colleges. Texas, to date, for the most part is not one of them. The ruling body (UIL) for the public schools put in some variations that, for me, have remained somewhat strange. The schools in 4A and under, with some stipulations, were allowed to begin their seasons as usual in August, while the 5A and 6A schools were delayed a month until September.

Adult softball league results

The J Hudson Memorial End of Season Tourney has been completed with many of the usual things taking place in a tourney of this type. First, it is not easy for the season champ to repeat as the tourney champ, and it did not happen this year either. The No. 1 seed (Dripping Royalty) and No. 2 (Slapnut Magoos) were thrown into the loser's bracket with an opening loss. These seeds usually draw a first round bye and catch a team that gets hot in their first game. After the first night the No. 6 (T-Baggers) and No.5 (Chronic Offenders) had packed their bags until next season. The top two seeds found themselves in the elimination game to begin the final night. Meanwhile, the No. 3 (Sons of Pitches) and No. 4 (#Town) were the two undefeated teams.

Adult softball league results

As the season begins to wane in the Thursday night adult softball league, there becomes the normal of teams upsetting other teams they did not defeat when it really counted. In the premier game of the night, the league-leading Dripping Royalty took care of second place Slapnut Magoos to widen their lead. However, in the final game of the night, an awakened Sons of Pitches run-ruled the Royalty. After failing to show the previous week, #Town returned to win a pair of games. The teams have at least one more night in league play before competing in the end of season tourney.
