Capital Highlights January 13

AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott last week convened the quarterly meeting of his Domestic Terrorism Task Force at the state Capitol. 

"We must work together to develop meaningful solutions to fully eradicate domestic terrorism in the Lone Star State,” Abbott said in explaining the purpose of the meeting. "Just as domestic terrorism takes many forms, this task force is committed to developing comprehensive and evolving defense strategies to ensure a safe and secure future for every Texan," Abbott added.

Looking over some of the new 2020 laws in Texas, maybe we needed better bills -- because some of the new laws fall into the “Why Bother?” category. But if you think some of the new Texas laws are unneeded, try some of the laws I found on the books in other states (Yes, these laws are still active and still enforced!)

Happy New Year, everyone! While January is the month to plan and dream about your yard and garden, smart gardeners know that a wish list drawn up in winter can feel overwhelming by spring. Instead, grow your garden a few steps at a time each year by making (and keeping) a few garden related New Year’s resolutions for 2020. Wait just a moment, before we get to any garden related ideas, who else is wondering where the idea of making a resolution at the new year come from?

Running with Moe January 9

For the person that made New Year’s resolutions to improve fitness, and likes to watch football, it was a tough start. It was tough to get a workout in when bowl games went from 12: noon until 11:00 p.m. that night.  If you were an early morning person it might be okay.  But being an early morning workout person after a New Year’s Eve celebration is a contradiction in willingness to be active.
