Winter sports conclude in Dripping Springs

All the winter sports have finally concluded their seasons at Dripping Springs High School. A summary of their final week — including boys basketball, swimming and wrestling — is below.

Boys Basketball

The Tigers gave it all they had to try and extend their season. The 17-15 Tigers tied Austin’s Anderson High School for fourth place in district and had to have a play-in game to see who made the playoffs. The Tigers held a 20-14 lead at the half, but Anderson came out on fire and outscored the Tigers 26-6 in the third enroute to a 52-40 win. Jaxon Reagan and Judson Loe scored 15 points each for the Tigers.

Coach Swannack resigns

After 11 seasons as the head boys basketball coach, Craig Swannack turned in his resignation. He took the job in 2012, steering the Tigers to a district championship in 2014 and coaching five more playoff teams from 2017–2021. His record was 202-152, the second most wins in DSHS history. He will remain as a member of the faculty and continue to hone his skills in the broadcasting world.

Swimming

The Lady Tigers sent their 400-freestyle relay team to the state meet in Austin. The team finished 14th in state, but set the school record with the time of 3.33.23 in the preliminary round. Members of the team were Athena Turner, Macie McCurry, Anna Hoskovec and Laurel Hoskovec.

Wrestling

The Tigers had good representation at the state meet. Coach Kirksey was hoping to finish in the top ten but did come through with 13th place, scoring 34 points. Kirksey said he was pleased with the finish because they were initially predicted to finish 24th. Alec Rill was the only Tiger to earn a medal. He took third in the 215 division, winning five of six rounds and was responsible for 23 points. Points are also earned by the number of rounds a wrestler goes in the event.

Here are how the rest of the team fared: Jackson Shipley (W,L,L); Cole Sides (L,W,L); Hagen Shipley (L,W,W,L); Taylor Van de Walle (L,L); Shane Bookbinder (L,L); Ben Lourens (W,L,L); Raphael Siewen (L,L). Lady Tiger Addison Williams was the lone entrant for Dripping Springs’ girls wrestling and was defeated in both matches.
