Track and field earns three state berths

Fourteen athletes from Dripping Springs High School headed to the regional competition for track and field, hoping their performances would get them to the big show at the state meet. Three had their dreams come true.

Track is a difficult sport in that each individual depends on their best performance coming each time they compete. If not, there may not be a next time — no matter how good your times have been. Those going to state for Dripping Springs are Sofia Farris, Ava Williamson and Tomsen Vickery. All placed second. Farris lowered her school record in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.29. Williamson cleared the bar at 5'4 in the high jump, while Vickery tossed the discus 181'3 to set a new school record.

Additional results from regionals: Girls: 100H: 5. Farris 14.68; 800R: 10: 1.44.72 (Avantza Gil, Kaleigh Howell, Ellie Hodsden, Chloe Fredenburg); LJ: 10. Farris 17'1; PV: 10: Mailand Zimmerman 9'6. Boys: PV. 6. Ian Jones 13'6; 800R: 8. 1.31.10 (Gunnar Betts, Boston Papp, N. Tyndall, Garon Duncan); 300H: 14. Gage Groce 43.90.
