Tigers take down Anderson Trojans 52-17

In the final regular season game for the Dripping Springs High School Tigers, they continued their scoring and defensive ways to knock off the Anderson Trojans 52-17.

This solidified the Tigers’ hold on second place in District 26-6A with an 8-2 record and prepared them for their bi-district game with Leander’s Vista Ridge High School.

As usual, the Tigers kept to their script of scoring on their first drive. The Tigers slowed the Trojans pass attack on their first possession, and on the fourth play, Maddox Maher hit Cooper Reid in a full stride slant across the middle for a 39yard touchdown. Landon Requard hit the first of his nine extra points. 7-0. Anderson would answer with a 25-yard field goal to make it 10-3 after the first quarter.

Jack Williams shared quarterback duties with Maher and popped a sixyard run early in the second to make the score 143. Anderson hung in with a 46-yard touchdown pass, which narrowed the margin to 14-10. Maher would hit Kyle Koch from the three to go up 21-10 at the half.

The third quarter was all Tigers, adding 28 unanswered points to the board. Maher hit Jack Tyndall on a 12-yard pass, and on the next drive, Tyndall took it in from the seven. The scoring continued when Maher completed his third touchdown pass to Maddox Bloomgren from the two-yard line. Less than a minute later, Luca Picucci broke through on a punt attempt and blocked it into the endzone — where Colton Hanson snatched the bouncing ball for his touchdown. That ended the 28-point quarter.

The final points showed how coaches keep their player's feelings at the heart of the game. Koch was allowed to kick a 22-yard field goal, even though he is not the kicker. This allowed him to claim he has scored in all ways possible, except by safety.

Friday, Nov. 10, the Tigers will begin their playoff run as they host Vista Ridge (7-3), an old district opponent, at the bi-district level. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
