Tigers take bi-district tilt 69-14

Manor High School has been a thorn in the side of Dripping Springs High School throughout the history of their play.

The Mustangs held a 22-9-1 edge, including bi-district wins in 2018 and 2019. The 2022 Tigers could not do anything about the past but everything about the present. It was a total effort from both sides of the ball to overpower the Mustangs 69-14. The Tiger defense was never better as they completely smothered the onedimensional running Mustangs.

Of the 47 running plays, DSHS had 20 plays for losses and four more no gains. In addition, they came up with five turnovers that became five scores.

The Tigers left no doubt from the beginning who the dominant team was going to be, easily managing their usual seven straight scoring drives. Manor had the ball first and gave it up on a short punt at the Mustang 39-yard line. Four plays later, Austin Novosad would hit Kyle Koch for a 26-yard score. Walker Wright was true on the first of his seven extra points. 7-0. For the next drive, the Tigers had to go 79 yards. Eight plays later, Jack Tyndall bullied in from the one on the last play of the quarter. 14-0.

DSHS doubled their scores in the second quarter. A 13-play, 68yard drive was climaxed by a 2-yard pass from Novosad to Koch. 210. On the ensuing kick, Nolan Dahl hustled down and took possession of the ball at the eleven yard line on a muff. Kade Curry would take it in from the six yard line. 28-0. On the third play, the ball was put on the ground, and Elijah Gonzales outmuscled everyone for the ball at the Manor 40yard line. Curry went in for the final two yards. 35-0. A three and out gave the Tigers the ball at the Tigers’ 41-yard line. A 34-yard pass from Novosad to Garon Duncan with 14 seconds left gave DSHS a 42-0 lead at half.

A 29-yard kickoff return by Duncan set the Tigers at the 40-yard line. Curry had an 11yard burst to make it 490. Near the end of the quarter, Manor scored on a nine-yard run. 497. Second play of the fourth quarter, a Tiger fumble was picked up by a 300 pound Mustang. He would outrace the entire Tiger team for a 75-yard fumble return. 49-14. Cash Brunson almost cashed in when he recovered a fumble on the Manor oneyard line. Jack Williams sneaked it in from there. Aiden Burgess kicked the extra point. 56-14. One play after DSHS lost a fumble, Owen Rhodes timed a pass perfectly and returned it 45-yards for a score. 63-14. If that was not enough, Noah Chomout had his own scoop and score on a fumble for a 33-yard score. 69-14.

This win puts the Tigers in the area game playing San Antonio’s Brandeis High School (9-2). The game will be played at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
