Tigers readying for baseball district race

Just about all of the non-district schedule has been completed and the Tigers can turn to the important district race. They shut out the Boerne Champion Chargers 7-0 to go 2-1 in district play. In addition they would play in their own tourney and McCallum.

Trying to outguess the weather is a futile undertaking. Several weeks ago, the weather was bad but some games went on. This time the middle day of the tourney was forecasted to be another of those cold-rainy days, so the day was canceled and Saturday rearranged. Lo and behold the day turned out to be much better than days played in.

Boerne Champion was the main target of the group. It was a good game but two big innings provided all the runs the Tigers would need. In the first Aidan Perry, Taylor Tracey and Mason Ashlock would single to score one but two infield errors allowed three more which was enough but the Tigers would add three more in the fourth. Brandon Arvidson took the mound and although not as sharp as he would like, did shut down the Chargers for four innings, allowing 3 hits, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts. Nico Ruedas came in for two and Jaxson Conover one.

The tournament was designed to develop depth in the pitching staff because the starting lineups are pretty well set for the district run. A few weeks ago DS had an easy time with Hays but on this day it was Hays turn. Hays would explode for six in the fifth to down the Tigers 9-5. DS got their five in the bottom of the fifth. Luke Hudson and Sam Agajanian led the 11-hit attack with two each. Max Church started the game and went 4+ innings, giving up 9 hits and six runs. Cody Daniels and Teddy Douds relieved.

Ruedas was handed the ball for the Smithson Valley game. He responded with a 4-hit, 7-4 win with 7 strikeouts. Theo Howard, Hudson, Perry, Ryland Mahoney, Arvidson and Matthew Schindler provided the hits.

A parade of pitchers participated in the 7-3 loss to RR Westwood. Tracey, Conover, Cooper Rummell, Travis Mora and Mahoney all took turns. Ashlock had a double among the four hits.

McCallum came during the spring break. One may think it would be one of those could care less games but neither coach took it that way. They both put their best foot forward as the 3-2 score in the Knight's favor will attest. Fans were treated to many major league plays by the infield and outfield, giving their pitchers total support. The Knights three came in the second on two hits, two walks and a couple of wild pitches. DS made their push in the fifth. Ruedas walked and Howard singled. Perry brought them in with a double but could not get anything going after that. Tracey tossed the first four while Austin Van Burkleo and Price Donatiello finished up.
