Tigers Lacrosse team state playoff bound

It was a beautiful spring afternoon in Dripping Springs and the lacrosse team added some nice touches of its own with a 17-6 drubbing of district foe Round Rock. The win awarded Drip the number five seed in the Texas High School Lacrosse League playoffs against Houston Memorial, a team they beat on the road 15-6.

Ryan Williamson started the scoring barrage a little over a minute into the game. Junior attackman Jack Tanner, who has been white-hot the second half of the season, got his first of six goals a minute later. He also had three assists and was awarded the team hammer for his tenacious play.

Drip had a 5-3 halftime lead and poured it on in the second half. Charles Hunt continued his unprecedented year with four early assists and then added two goals to keep his 21-game goal streak alive. Hunt earned All-District honors with his recordsetting finish to the regular season. Sophomore Walker Wright also had two goals. The face off tandem of Jack Guzaldo and Alex Schlab went 11 of 13. Schlab had a goal and was named to the All-District Team. His brother, Gideon, a junior, was an All-District defender as well.

Dripping Springs is hosting the Super Regionals this weekend. Eight teams from across the state will roll into Drip this weekend to determine two of the final four teams that move on to Houston May 8 for the final four. If the Tigers beat Memorial, they will most likely face Austin High on Sunday.
