Tigers fight weather, shut out Trojans

The only thing that could slow down the Dripping Springs High School Tigers on Friday night was weather, as they took on the Anderson High School Trojans.

A squall line raised its ugly head shortly before kickoff time. It produced lots of lightning and some rain. Under University Interscholastic League rules, when the siren goes off, there is an automatic 30-minute wait. The game was delayed until 9:45 p.m. Once the game began, the Tigers produced a storm of points to take the final regular game of the season 49-0.

Dripping Springs scored their first seven possessions — which has been a major habit all season long. In the last nine games, they have scored on 64 of 92 possessions that have counted. They just have too many offensive weapons not to be a threat on each drive, and they showed enough strength on special teams this game to concern future opponents. The team has also shown great downfield blocking by all. Shutouts are not uncommon with the Tiger defense in charge.

Anderson received the kickoff and were forced to punt to the 38-yard line. Kade Curry climaxed the 62-yard drive with a six-yard run, after which Walker Wright added the first of his seven extra points. Anderson passed to the one-yard line, but Greyson Jones would thwart the score with an interception, returning the ball to the 30. Curry would power in from the seven-yard line on the first play of the second quarter. 14-0. Jones would take the next punt to the house on a 48-yard return. 21-0. The Tigers moved the next drive 88 yards, climaxed by a 25--yard, Austin-Novosadto- Kyle-Koch pass. 28-0. Jones almost got his second touchdown return when he took a punt 34 yards to the six-yard line. Novosad hit Garon Duncan from there just before the half. 35-0.

The second half slowed down, as the Dripping Springs reserves got to see some action. Novosad would find Duncan for a 40-yard touchdown on the first drive, and Jack Williams hit Jack Tyndall for a 28-yard score on the second drive.

The next action for the Tigers will be Friday night, when they host the Manor High School Mustangs in the bi-district tilt. Kickoff will be 7:30 p.m. Check with the athletic website for more details.
