Tigers advance in baseball playoffs

Georgetown will begin to hate seeing the Tigers on their playoff schedule. The football team knocked them out in bi-district and now the baseball team did likewise. The first game provided one of the most edge-of-the-seat games you would ever want to watch. It would go a school record 14 innings before a conclusion could be reached.

Each team understood how important this first game win would be and threw everything they had to achieve this, an actual two games in one. The Tigers had their ace, Cameron O'Banan, on the mound and for a long while that seemed to be enough. The Tigers gave him a run in the second when Reece Dunn and Max Miles walked. After a fielder's choice out, Luke D'Alessandro was able to get the run in with a ground ball to second. A second run seemed imminent in the fourth when Dunn doubled and his courtesy runner went to third on a wild pitch. Mitchell Bockelman lofted a fly to center that looked like it could bring in the runner. Unfortunately, the CF had a rifle for an arm and cut down the Tiger with room to spare at the plate.

O'Banan was doing his part as he entered the seventh with a no-hitter. He struck out the first two and was one out away from the win. He walked the next batter, which is usually trouble in baseball. Sure enough a wild pitch put him at second and the next batter drilled a two-strike double to right center and that tied the game. The Tigers sent in Nico Ruedas to pitch the next five innings. DS dodged a couple of bullets early. Cody Evans came in to start the 13th. After getting the leadoff in the 14th, the next batter stroked a double. The following batter ripped a rocket to right. The only mystery was whether the ball would go over the fence before going foul. It chose fair and the Eagles had their 3-1 margin. The Tigers almost tied it in their half but their shot went foul.

It looked like the Tigers might be in trouble. Having two major disappointments in the same game that took a victory away is quite deflating. However, they found a strong inflator and other good arms to dispose of the Eagles 6-1 and 4-0. The Tigers will take on SA Jefferson in the Area game. It will be a one-game playoff held at the Northeast Sports Park in San Antonio. Game time not determined at press time.

In the final district game, it was a matter of turn about being fair play. In the first game the Tigers eased past Kerrville 2-1 and this time Tivy scored twice in the sixth to take the game 2-1.
