Tiger volleyball falls in early tournament schedule

Tis the part of the volleyball season that is brutal. Teams pile over half their season into three weeks. They call them tournaments but really they are a legal way to cram in as many games as possible. Each team is basically guaranteed nine games in three days regardless of record. What one hopes is a chance to build up depth of quality while not getting anyone injured from all the repetition of chances. With today's problems with Covid, other illnesses and injuries, a good team definitely needs players with game experience to step up and not have a let down in talent. The Lady Tigers have the makings for a long run and will gain from the experience.

As we mentioned last week, the Lady Tigers stumbled coming out of the blocks and dropped their first three contests. Then it was off to Pearland to play in that big tourney and won their three matches each of the first two days for a sixgame win streak. Undefeated Woodlands stopped it and Dawson started one in the opposite direction. Their final game was against Westlake and they mowed them down to end the tourney 7-2.

Next up was a scheduled game at Lake Travis. Both have strong programs and it is always terrific competition when these two schools get together. Both had just come back from the Pearland tourney. Lake Travis was missing three starters and some reserves but so was Dripping Springs, plus players had to be a little weary after the tourney. LT had some players step up and take up the slack and surprisingly disposed of the Lady Tigers in three. This weekend the Lady Tigers will be competing in another strong tourney at the New Braunfels Fraulein tourney. We will report the results in the next issue.
