Tiger basketball splits first two district games

The Tigers basketball team have been playing some pretty stiff competition to prepare for the equally tough competition in district play. The top three teams in the district is expected to be Lake Travis, Westlake and Hays Johnson. Dripping Springs is expected to battle hard for that fourth spot in the playoffs which means they must win all the games they are supposed to and sneak up on some they should not. At the present the Tigers are 7-8 and 1-1 in district. They have defeated Bowie 44-36 and lost to Hays Johnson 61-52.

The first district game at Dripping Springs was Johnson. This was a game certainly worth the price of admission. It was fastpaced and physical for the entire game. Stone Patterson got the game started with a basket and the Tigers would hold onto a lead, 12-7 being the largest until Johnson tied it at 12. Johnson would take the lead at the 3.13 mark. They would extend it to 19-12 after one and never gave it up. The closest they could get it was five, but Hays kept holding the Tigers off with threes. It was 3018 at the half.

Zach Fleming and Jaxson Reagan took over the scoring in the second half as the team kept battling. However, they could not get any closer than six (50-56) with 1.30 left in the game. It was 46-32 after three.

Bowie was an important win because they will be in the mix at the end and a team cannot afford to lose to someone in the running for their spot.

Worth mentioning is the accomplishment of Judson Loe, a junior. He joined an elite group of Tiger players when he stuffed the net for 32 points in the San Antonio Churchill contest.

Vs. Bowie: Loe 12, Rushton Budge 10, Reagan 8, Fleming 5, Austin Moore 3, Brayden Spencer 3, Patterson 3.

Vs. Johnson: Fleming 16, Loe 12, Reagan 12, Patterson 7, Moore 3, Budge 2.
