Tiger Baseball 3-2 record at Comal Tourney
The Tigers baseball team journeyed south for a date with opponents in the Comal County baseball tourney. They showed improvement from their first tourney as they finished with a 3-2 record that could just as easily been 4-1.
They opened with St. Michaels. It was a close game all the way as SM tied it at three after four. DS looked to have the edge with single runs in the fifth and sixth but a 3-run homerun in the seventh spoiled it all and turned into a 6-5 loss. In the game with SA Brandeis, the Tigers did not let the foot off the throttle as they scored eight runs in the first three innings and cruised to an 8-2 win. It was a different story with SA Reagan. Reagan pushed single runs across in the second and fifth, but exploded for three runs on four hits and two walks in the seventh to clinch the 5-0 shutout. Schertz Clemens would have the misfortune of facing Nick Gullo on the mound and Tiger bats. Gullo would pitch a no-hitter and Tigers opened with six runs and topped that off with four in the fifth for a run-rule 12-0 win. The final game with SA O'Connor was definitely an “on the edge of your seat” variety. It would go nine innings. O'Connor would get single runs in the third and fifth to go ahead 2-0. DS would tie it up with the help of a hit batter and four hits in the sixth. Another hit batter in the bottom of the ninth would give Brennan Frickel the chase to stroke a two-out single for the walk off winning run.
