Strong Tiger second half dooms Bowie

A sluggish first half that included big penalties and a couple of interceptions that saw Dripping Springs High School going into halftime with a slim 14-12 halftime lead was saved by another top notch defensive effort this past weekend.

The offense tightened up their act significantly in the second half, scoring 35 points and holding opponent Bowie High School scoreless. This enabled the Tigers to take their second district game 49-12.

Bowie took the opening kickoff and bogged down after a first down. The Tigers gave it up on an interception, but Noah Lambie got it right back with his own interception. The Tigers moved it 60 yards on ten plays ending on a seven-yard pass from Maddox Maher to Maddox Bloomgren. Landon Requard added the extra point. 7-0.

Bowie took their drive into the second quarter with the Tiger defense forcing a 38-yard field goal. 3-7.

A 73-yard, 12-play drive, mostly on the ground, was climaxed by a Jack Tyndall five-yard run and a kick by Requard. This boosted the lead to 14-3. A 60-yard pass was key to the Bowie score from the one on their 75yard drive. The missed kick left the score at 14-9. Another Tiger interception gave the Bulldogs the ball on the three-yard line but a vicious Tiger defense forced a 25-yard field goal. 14-12 at half.

Dripping Springs came out in the second half scoring five of their first six possessions to take total control. A three-play, 66-yard drive was culminated by a Maher to Kyle Koch pass covering 64 yards. 21-12. A bobbled punt snap gave the Tigers the ball on the 28 yard line. After an incomplete pass, J. Tyndall took it the distance. 28-12. Three punts later, Koch returned one for 68 yards and the score. This was the second game in a row he returned one for a touchdown. 3512.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, Lambie got his second interception at the Tiger 41. J. Tyndall ran the ball to the Bulldog 40 and brother, Nick, broke loose for the final 40. 42-12. Bowie moved the ball ten plays to the Tiger 28 before stalling. On the first play, J. Tyndall popped to the outside and out-sprinted the Bulldogs down the sidelines. The final score was 49-12.

Dripping Springs has a 2-0 district record and expect to stay that way as they head for the back-toback games with Westlake and Lake Travis High Schools in a few weeks. On Friday, Sept. 29, they will travel to Johnson High School. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
