Softball readies for play-off push

Last Saturday the Lady Tigers scheduled a couple of games with two good teams to better sharpen the team for the coming playoffs. This doubleheader was played at the Lady Tigers field. The two teams were Boerne and Georgetown, two teams heading for the playoffs as well. DS would lose both as Boerne came back to win 6-4 and Georgetown started fast to win 10-6. We will probably see the Lady Eagles in the playoffs. Boerne is Class 4A. A Monday district game with Veterans Memorial produced an 8-3 win. The game was played on Monday to free up athletes for the district track meet on Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers looked to have things well in hand with the Lady Greyhounds as they pulled out to a 4-0 lead after five. However, as it happens at times, the wheels came off in one inning. This being the sixth. Boerne would come up with six runs and spoil it all. No doubt the three errors had a lot to do with it.

Georgetown is currently second in 25-5A. They overwhelmed the Lady Tigers early by scoring four in the first, two in the second and another four in the third. This time it would be DS scoring six in the fifth but it would still fall short.

Dripping Springs opened the game with VM by putting a five-spot on the scoreboard and that would be enough. VM got one in the first and two more in the fifth to close the gap but DS would pull away with two in the sixth and one more in the seventh.

Looking ahead. The Lady Tigers are currently in first place and expecting to remain there in the final three games. DS will be at home Thursday vs Lehman, Tuesday at Seguin and Friday at home with Kerrville Tivy and the next day, Saturday, a practice game with Lake Belton. If so, this means DS would play the fourth place team in District 25- 5A. In that district there is a mad scramble for the last two places. Leander 10-0 and Georgetown 9-1 have comfortable leads over the others. Rouse 5-5, Cedar Park 5-5, East View 4-6 and Liberty Hill 4-6 are all looking for a piece of the playoff pie.
