Ready or not, a new years of sports is here

Four Dripping Springs High School sports programs are already underway and preparing for their game openers later this year.

For the second year, Dripping Springs will be competing in UIL’s District 26-6A with teams from Austin’s Akins, Anderson, Austin and Bowie High Schools; Buda’s Johnson High School; Del Valle High School; Lake Travis High School and Westlake High School.

Volleyball: The Lady Tigers will be defending their Class 6A state title. They lost some quality athletes to graduation, but that has never stopped them as they reload and go after the next title. If you are going to watch the Lady Tigers play, you will likely need transportation as the only home games are the eight district games. They open with a doubleheader against Leander’s Rouse High School and Round Rock’s Westwood High School on Aug. 7.

Football: The Tigers will be following up a winning 12-2 year, setting great expectations for 2023. Serious district competition is primarily expected from Lake Travis and Westlake, but none will be that easy. All the fans will be looking forward to the season home opener with Vandegrift High School on Aug. 25. Last year, Dripping Springs and Vandegrift split their two games by a field goal.

Cross Country: The two boys and girls squads will officially begin their season in late August, where they are expected to be among the top contenders.

Team Tennis: The tennis program is strong in a strong district, and like volleyball, their season starts early in August.
