Mules beat the Tigers

The young Dripping Springs Tigers basketball team continues to struggle as they move into the district schedule. The latest loss came at the hands of the Alamo Heights Mules. They dropped the contest 42-29 to go 0-2 in district play. They are 4-11 on the season.

It was a fast-paced game as both teams moved the ball around and went aggressively to the basket. On this night the opportunity for good shots were had but the pace forced the shots to be errant and many points were lost on both sides. Early on it looked like the Tigers had the possibility of being in trouble because the Mules were missing the makeable shots and one knew they would continue to get them and not miss. However, they kept being off and the Tigers hung tough all night. The problem was the Tigers could not put a scoring streak together and the Mules would add a few points to their deficit each quarter and before you knew it, the game was over.

The Tigers took their only lead of the night when Jack Williams dropped in a pair of free throws at the 6.34 mark to make it 2-0. AH surged ahead just enough to stay out of reach of the lead. It would end 7-8 after one. It was much the same in the second. AH would manage to extend their lead to 7 (19-12) with 38 seconds left. A buzzer-beater three gave Alamo Heights the lead at half 22-13.

The second half followed much the same pattern. The Tigers just could not gain any ground as the quarter ended 32-20. The ballhandling skills of the Mules allowed them to be more deliberate in the fourth and run time off the clock. The Tigers were unable to take advantage of any openings given to them causing their impending demise.

It is hard for any team to win that does not shoot well and score points. Very few 0-0 games in basketball. The Tigers hit 8-28 from two and 2-14 from three. They were 7-12 at the line. The ten turnovers were very commendable for the fast pace of the game. Play will continue during the holidays as the Tigers played Veterans Memorial yesterday and will host Lehman on December 31 at 12:30.

Scoring for the Tigers were Williams 11, Luke Spozio 6, Maddox Bloomgren 4, Cade Brunson 3, Layne Herington 2, Dylan Ducharme 2 and Josh Oliphant 1.
