Lady Tigers Volleyball State-Ranked

The state rankings for volleyball in 5A starts out just like it ended in 2020. Lucas Lovejoy, who has been a major thorn in the side of the Lady Tigers at the state tourney each time will sit on the top perch until someone can dethrone them. The team they defeated, Fulshear, was named second while Dripping Springs took the third spot after losing to Fulshear last year.

Most certainly, the Lady Tigers are primed to move up the ladder this year as the 2020 team had five sophomore starters in that final game. Only five senio were among the squad. The sophomore class was bolstered by the Lake Travi transfer, Mackenzie Plante and she did not fail to deliver. The Michael Kane 11-year reign at Dripping Springs includes eight district championships, five state appearances and one state championship with a 395-137 record.

The shock last year was the Lady Tigers finishing behind NB Canyon and Alamo Heights in district play. Those are two strong programs but Covid had its print on this as well. The time young teams get to grow up quickly is in the first month when teams play in three big tourneys that allow them around 30 games before district play begins. Those three were eradicated from the schedule and any experience had to be gained during district play. That they did and by the time the playoffs arrived the team had solidified, beating good teams to make it to the state tourney. Won't be any easier this year as they again play NB Canyon (5th) in district and will probably have to play Rouse (8th) and CC Flour Bluff (10th) from Region IV before returning to state.

However, if you are hoping to get to see them in the near future you will have to travel. The season begins August 9 and after around 30 games played, the Lady Tigers will make their home debut on September 3 against district opponent Boerne Champion.
