Lady Tigers Softball Team Rolls On

Article Image Alt Text

San Antonio Southwest took their chances by opting for a single playoff game rather than a best of three. The gamble did not pay off as Logan Hulon and Bailey Hudgeons took care of their jobs and the result was a 3-0 victory over Southwest and a date with Kerrville Tivy in the regional quarterfinal round. Tivy (25-11-2) defeated Uvalde 7-4, 5-10, 8-7 for the right. Check school website for details.

Hulon would toss a no-hit shutout with only three walks marring the perfect game. Her battery mate, Hudgeons, not only caught the 12 strikeouts but provided the bat that drove in the three runs. DS only got six hits themselves but four of them were of the extra base variety. This game was played at the Texas State University softball complex. The timing and site could not have been better as they were able to escape the inclement weather that hampered other games in the area.

In actuality, the Lady Tigers would get all the cushion they needed in their opening at bat. Camille Corona led off with a single, was bunted to second, went to third on a ground out before scoring on Hudgeons' two-out double. That lead held up until the bottom of the fifth when Ryann Campbell worked the pitcher for a walk and Hudgeons promptly parked one over the fence for the final margin of victory. Earlier in the game Corona was cut down at the plate trying for an inside-the-park homerun. Southwest never really threatened throughout the game, getting only one ball out of the infield.

Vs Southwest: Hits: Corona 2 (3B), Hudgeons (2B, HR), Brooke Rummel 2B, Izzy Bermudez. Pitch: Hulon: 7IP, 0H, 0R, 12K, 3W.
