Lady Tigers off to a slow start in district

The Lady Tigers have struggled for wins all season long and the trend has continued in district. Even though there were several returning letterwinners with experience, only one, Rain Collins, chose to return. This meant that Coach Batson had to start out with an entirely new team to go against some good district teams. In watching the Bowie game, there were many encouraging signs coming from the team. First of all they played hard the entire game and showed no signs of discouragement. They aggressively went to the basket for shots and although they still missed the majority, unlike the last few years, the shots had a chance to go in. They hustled on defense, competed for rebounds and took care of the ball. They are certainly worth your time and effort to support them. They are doing all they can do to win and they will come away with victories during district play.

A strong Austin High team overwhelmed the Lady Tigers 79-33 to start district play. Bowie did not mind putting up the threes, which propelled them to a quick lead. It was 13-4 after one and by the half, the Lady Dawgs had extended the lead to 31-7. Collins came out hitting threes to get the Lady Tigers back in the game. They matched Bowie 17-17 in the third as the score was 48-34. The Lady Tigers continued to give a strong effort before falling 55-35.

The next game was with Hays Johnson. The score was 60-48 in the favor of Hays. In talking with Coach Batson about the game. He was upbeat about his team's effort saying they had good shooting stats but Johnson out rebounded them and caused more turnovers than normal and those lost possessions were just enough to make them suffer the defeat.

Scoring vs Bowie: Rains 12, Jaeden Stankard 6, Kenlea Hardin 6, Layne Fields 4, Bailey Rogers 4, Ella Beatty 3.
