Lady Tigers play first district game of softball season

The ice storm split the start of the Lady Tigers softball season. They had participated in several weeks of scrimmages before having to take off for the storm. The storm had also delayed the first district game and cancelled an early tourney. It is unusual to start your season off with a district game but the number of teams in the district and rules made it happen.

The Lady Tigers opened district play with Hays Johnson. DS got off on the right foot by easing past Johnson 4-2. They would cross the plate with single runs in the third and fourth before doubling the number in the fifth. Hays would get on the board in the fifth and sixth with single runs, both on homeruns. DS out-hit Johnson 10-7 with two errors by each team. Jordan Cox would pitch a complete game for the win.

The next night they would host NB Canyon. Canyon has always had a strong program too. Big duels have often taken place in the past. DS spent the night chasing the score. The Cougarettes scored twice in the second on an error. Single runs by DS in the third and fourth tied the game. NB would use three hits and a walk to score three more in the fifth. DS would counter with a run in the bottom half. DS would face the bottom of the seventh with a two-run deficit. Two hits and two walks allowed the Lady Tigers to tie the game and it would go into the ninth before Taylor Anderson would get a single and Cox would bring her in with a single to get the win and stay undefeated in the race. Each team collected 10 hits.

The annual Brittany Tuck Memorial tourney was played this past weeked and the results will be reported in the next issue.
