Lady Tigers hit rough spot

The Lady Tigers basketball team has found the going to be tough in the last couple of weeks as they have dropped six straight contests. They went to the always tough Georgetown tourney and came away with four losses. They lost to Argyle 70-26, Ft. Worth Boswell 61-11, Harker Heights 42-32 and Round Rock Home School 73-38. Then it got no easier as they returned home to host district opponents NB Canyon and Boerne Champion. They fell to NBC 55-28 and BC 52-32.

Again DS fell behind early with Canyon 0-8 before Caroline Dill could get the lone basket as the quarter ended 13-2. It was 33-14 at the half. The score was 48-20 after three. Accurate shooting still haunts the Lady Tigers as does ball handling. They were 10-35 from two, 1-14 from three and 5-14 from the line. In addition, they turned over the ball 17 times which means those were times were not able to score and gave the opponent the extra chances.

BC was definitely the best team this writer has seen the Lady Tigers play this year. They exuded good team play, defense and quick ball movement until a percentage shot was attained. A couple of tall girls that knew how to get open in the paint and use the backboards for accuracy. All of this kept the pressure on DS all game.

Even so, the Lady Tigers played hard and did stay in range until the half. But when you have as many turnovers as you do shots, the odds are not with you. Hayden Ely and Azaria Arnold showed signs of helping the offensive threat so needed.

BC got the quick lead at 4-0 but a barrage of threes by Ely, Ainsley Ballard and Linan Scott tied the game at 6-6 and 11-11 before taking their only lead of the night 14-13 at .36 mark. The quarter ended 14-17. At the half it was 28-22. BC steadily pulled away in the second half leading 42-28 after three. DS hit 7-19 from two, 4-6 from three and 6-10 from the line to go with 25 turnovers.
