Lady Tigers basketball opens with win

There is a lot of new about the Lady Tigers basketball team this year. First of all they have welcomed Jordan Batson as the new head coach. Previously, the DS assistant, Coach Batson moved up when Coach David Norris decided to retire from the sport. Also, most of the players on the squad will basically be new to starting and playing significant minutes. They will be eager to improve on last years' 9-13 record and fifth place finish.

The Lady Tigers got off on the right foot as they travelled to Taylor to take on the Lady Ducks. They quacked them 55-36 for that opening win. DS smothered Taylor pretty good in the first half taking 11-3 and 20-8 quarters for a comfortable 31-11 lead at half. With everyone getting some good game experience in the second half, the Lady Tigers scored a dozen in each quarter. The impressive stat was the 56 rebounds garnered for the game. Of course those represent missed shots and the Lady Tigers shooting stats will need to improve as the season goes. They shot 33% (14-42) from two, 38% (5-13) from three and 60% (12-20) from the line. However, when you have a team that will battle for rebounds, you will get possession of the ball more and gain some easy baskets as well.

DS scorers: Jordan Cox 9, Hayden Ely 8, Madelyn Robles 7, Linan Scott 7, Makynna Hubbard 6, Karenna Edwards 5, Ava Warren 4, Ainsley Ballard 3, Ella Smith 3, Caroline Dill 2, Kiera O'Connor 1.
