Lady Tiger softball opens with a victory

The softball season is underway, and the Lady Tigers are ready to flex their muscles with a strong contingency of starters returning.

The two starting pitchers, Jordan Cox and Haiden Anderson return and they are flanked by Taylor Anderson, Kate Tressler, Erika Kanetsky, Linan Scott, Attie Lux and Ashtyn Owens. They showed things to come when they downed an always strong New Braunfels High team 8-2 to start off. Taylor Anderson was the offensive leader with three hits, 3 runs and four stolen bases. Cox also added two of the team's eleven hits. Meanwhile, Cox toed the rubber and had a strong, complete game. She allowed 2H, 2R, 2ER, 3W, 8K.

One of the bright events in each season is the hosting of the Brittany Tuck Memorial Tourney. Brittany Tuck was a young lady that played a couple of years at Dripping Springs before moving with her family for her final two years at Lake Travis. She earned a scholarship to Sam Houston State University. Unfortunately, on a trip home she was involved in an automobile accident and lost her life. The next year in 2005, her dad, Keith Tuck, took the Dripping Springs High School softball job. In 2007, he honored his daughter with this tourney and it has been an annual event from thereon. Sadly, Coach Tuck retired in 2013 and a few months later, the Tiger Nation was shocked by his premature passing.

Coach Wade Womack took over the program and the tourney. The tourney is played on three Dripping Springs fields and at the Lake Travis field. This year, it will be held Feb. 23–25.

On Thursday, Feb. 23, the Lady Tigers take on Sinton High School at 3 p.m. and Barbers Hill High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, the schedule calls for Brenham High School at 1 p.m. and Judson High School at 7 p.m. The final day matches Boerne High School at 3 p.m. and Cedar Park High School at 7 p.m.
