Lacrosse honors former teammate

Drip Lacrosse took the field Thursday night in front of a strong crowd, despite the blustery cold weather. Before the game, the team and its fans stood in silence to honor the memory of their former teammate, Taden Frickel. This would be their first time to face off at home without Frickel. The team noted “it is in Taden’s honor that we play this game. To us, we honor him by HOW we play this game. We will play like Taden would; full speed, full of grit, and with a huge smile on our face.” Coach Bill Cafferata shared that “Taden had an incredible gift of bringing everyone together, and because of that gift, we must continue to lean on each other as we keep stepping forward.” The Frickel Family joined the team in their pregame meal. Following a powerful rendition of the National Anthem, the Tigers channeled their emotion on to the field. Senior Gideon Schlab wore the #16 jersey in recognition of his play in the previous game against Allen.

The offense set the tone early, out shooting Georgetown 15-4 in the first quarter. Junior Walk er Wright got the scoring started just over two minutes into the game, with a step down shot assisted by Senior Brett Williamson. The Tigers would take a one goal lead into the 2nd quarter. Four Tigers would find the back of the net in the 2nd quarter, with Junior Connor Krystof triggering the scoring onslaught. Dripping Springs extended their lead, holding Georgetown scoreless and finishing the half with an 8-2 advantage. The offense kept up the pace in the 2nd half with 3 different players registering a hat trick. Senior Jack Tanner and Junior Aiden Kane led the scoring with 3 goals and 2 assists each and Ryan Williamson added an additional 3 goals. Wright contributed 2 goals, with Brett Williamson assisting both goals, and Senior Brendan Linan chipped in a goal. The Tiger offense was moving the ball well on the night, with 10 assists supporting the 13-5 victory. Georgetown was led in scoring by Junior Dax Lambright. The Colorado Mesa commit had 4 of their 5 goals.

Junior Jonah Friedman led the defense with two caused turnovers and a couple ground balls. Additionally, Senior Cody Smith scooped up four ground balls and Wright forced two turnovers. Friedman and the penalty killers had another great evening, holding Georgetown scoreless on their five extra-man op portunities. That is the third time in four games the Tigers D has achieved this critical feat.

The Tigers move to 3-1 on the season. Tanner, a Concordia Irvine commit, took home the hammer for his inspired offensive play. Drip next takes the field this coming weekend, with games against Episcopal of Houston Friday night at 6pm and defending Class A Champion, Coppell, on Sunday at 1:15pm. JV will face off against Coppell Sunday at 11am. All games will be played at Dripping Springs Middle School. Admission is free. Drip Lacrosse will host their annual Casino Night on Saturday, March 5th at Last Chance.
