Hunt stays hot, Lacrosse sweeps Houston teams

The Dripping Springs Tigers kicked-off its 2021 season a week late due to the winter storm, but looked like a younger version of the 2020 team. They took on St. Johns out of Houston (0-2) under the lights last Friday beating them 15-4. The Tigers went right back to work on Saturday against Episcopal Houston (1-2) eking out an 11-9 win.

“We came out with tons of enthusiasm on Friday and never let up, it was a huge release after losing so much of last year,” said Associate Head Coach David Swartz. “It's tough to play back-to-back against a rested team, but we really showed our grit Saturday, winning a game where we didn't play our best.”

Drip scored first against the always outstanding St. Johns Mavericks and never looked back. Senior captain and Virginia Military Institute commit, Charles Hunt dropped in four goals. Junior Brett Williamson carried the team hammer dedicated to the player that typically goes unnoticed in the box score for his offseason grind to make the varsity roster. The hammer was handed to Sophomore Aiden Kane after the game for his team high 5 assists and 3 goals. The faceoff trio of Seniors Alex Schlab, Jack Guzaldo and Sophomore Owen Rhodes were 18 for 21. The trifecta went a combined 36-44 over the weekend.

Taking the field 14 hours later is never an easy task especially for a young team this early in the lacrosse season. The Tigers faced Episcopal during a Saturday matinee. Drip had a sluggish start and trailed the Knights 4-5 at halftime. Drip made their adjustments and added six goals in the third. Kane scored in the first minute of the third quarter to record his second hat trick of season. Hunt extended his scoring streak to 10-straight games dating back to 2020. Junior Gideon Schlab won the hammer for his defensive matchup against Episcopal rising star, sophomore Jackson Hearn. Junior Jack Tanner and senior Logan Hutchinson both had two goals, matching their scoring from the night before.

The Tigers are at home against Flower Mound (DFW) on Saturday and Kingwood (Houston) on Sunday. Admission is free.
