HS countdown to kickoff: Tigers face Canyon in first district game
Dripping Springs will play its first District 12-5A opponent in week four of the 2021 season, traveling to Canyon in New Braunfels.
The Tigers ended last year with a 6-4 season, a trichampionship and area game in the playoffs. As with many teams, they were unable to play three of their district games due to COVID-19.
However, Tigers still played a great season with Cameron O'Banan and Austin Novosad recording some of the country's top single-game marks in 2020.
According to MaxPreps, O'Banan caught 15 passes for a national-bests of 410 yards and six touchdowns. His yardage total ranks No. 3 in Texas history while his touchdown total is tied for third. Novosad’s 560 passing yards ranked 5th.
Optimism is high for 2021 and a return to normal play. The Tigers will start the season with a scrimmage on August 20 followed by three weeks of non-district play. They face Canyon away on September 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Cougar Stadium in their first district game.
