Four DSHS Tennis players advance to Regionals

For some years now, Dripping Springs has either been in the same district with Alamo Heights and Boerne Champion or meeting them in the playoffs. Either way, it has been tough getting by them. The district meet was a good one. Like other sports, it is hard to advance because only two teams or places get to go on to regional. However, the Tigers had much to be proud of as they qualified two doubles teams and another that just missed out with a third finish.

Henry Lovelace and Whitney Robbins were district champions in the mixed doubles, and had to turn back teammates Tallulah and Lexian Andrushko in the finals to win. This forced the Andrushko's to the playback round and they would finish third. The boys doubles team of Aidan Johannsen and Corbin Adcox finished second. The Region IV-5A tourney will be held at the Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio April 27-28.

Boys doubles: Johannsen/ Adcox def Tivy 6-4, 7-5; def Lehman 6-1, 4-6, 6-0; def BC 6-3, 6-2; lost AH 6-0, 6-2. Jaxson Hataway/ Nathan Pearson def 6-3, 2-6, 6-0; lost AH 6-1, 6-0.

Boys singles: Dakota Clark won 6-0, 6-2; lost 6-7(7-2), 3-6. Erich Burmeister lost 3-6, 2-6.

Girls doubles: Gwen Bailey/Sierra Stevens lost 6-1, 6-0. Gracie Johnson/ Kalea Caldwell lost 1-6, 6-4, 2-6.

Girls singles: Zara Watts lost 4-6, 3-6. Darby Austin lost 0-6, 2-6.

Mixed doubles: Lovelace/ Robbins def AH 6-1, 6-0; def BC 6-3, 6-2; def DS 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. Andrushko/ Andrushko def 6-0, 6-0; def Tivy 6-0, 6-2; lost DS 1-6, 6-2, 1-6; lost BC 3-6, 6-4, 4-6.
