DSHS Tigers bounce Brandeis 56-28

Dripping Springs High School football took on San Antonio’s Brandeis High School in the area game amid another week of inclement weather.

The teams had to play in intermittent rain with a chill factor in the 20's, winds 15-25 miles per hour and temperatures in the upper 30's. However, just like the postal service, the Tigers always deliver. Despite the weather, DSHS scored in all the conventional ways they usually do: on the ground and in the air. This game also helped keep the Tiger streak alive: DSHS scored the first seven times they touched the ball.

In the first quarter, the scoring came on the ground as Austin Novosad sneaked the first touchdown in from the one-yard line. Walker Wright toed the extra point: 7-0. On the second possession, Kade Curry would punch it in from the two-yard line: 14-0. The second quarter was all Novosad to Garon Duncan — four times. The scores came on 11yard, 26-yard, 23-yard and 48-yard passes, respectively. The score was 42-0, DSHS, at halftime.

To begin the second half, Jack Tyndall popped a 69-yard jaunt to make the score 49-0. From that point, the DSHS coaches began to substitute in the reserves. The Broncos would score twice in the third quarter before Tyndall got his second score on a 3-yard run in the fourth. Brandeis would score twice more in the fourth quarter. One can only surmise that Brandeis was at least better than the Tiger reserves, managing a final score of 56-28.

This means the Tigers will take on Harlingen for the regional semifinals this week. The game will be played at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Austin-area schools like to be in Region IV because the competition is usually not as strong and one can go deep in the playoffs. Westlake, Lake Travis, Dripping Springs and Vandegrift are expected to meet again in a couple of weeks.
