Dripping Springs Tigers staying even

For most of the year, the Dripping Springs High School Tiger baseball team has resided in the mediocrity of breakeven games.

With two games remaining, they are 1314-2, 7-7. Key injuries to their pitching has hampered stringing wins together. They have had some big wins that prove they could have been in the hunt. The Tigers took a pair from Del Valle High School and wins over Anderson High School in their final series can get them above the .500 mark.

In their first meeting, the Tigers scored six runs in the first two innings and held on to a 6-1 victory. It has been impressive how many runs have been scored with two outs. All six runs came in this situation. After two, a walk, error, three singles and a double scored the five points. In the second, it was a bases-loaded wild pitch.

Getting hits for the Tigers were Nick Tyndall, Travis Garrett, Connor Helms, Jack Tyndall, Ayden Dennis, Cooper Dixon and Theo Howard. Jaxon Conover and Austin Van Burkleo had strong outings on the mound.

As usual, one of the series games was close. It was a give and take in the eventual 4-3 DSHS win. Jack Tyndall doubled in Dixon for a run in the first. DV tied it in the second. With two out in the third, Mason Ashlock was HBP and brought in by a Ryland Mahoney single. DV tied it in their half. The fifth was unusual in that sac flies by Howard and Mahoney scored Ashlock and Tyndall for the winning runs. DV would get one back in the fifth inning, but DSHS pitching shut them down. Travis Mora pitched the first five innings and was backed up by stints from Mahoney and Van Burkleo. Getting the five hits were Jack Tyndall with two, Gavin Hoel, Mahoney and Howard.
