Lady Tigers Basketball Results This past week was tough

This past week was tough for the Lady Tigers against New Braunfels Canyon and Boerne Champion. Both of those teams are battling it out for the district title. Fifty-four was the magic win number as Canyon took a 54-31 win and Boerne Champion 54-39.

The New Braunfels Canyon Cougarettes came out with a vengeance and perfect execution on both ends. Dripping Springs missed their first nine shots and committed seven turnovers. No doubt due to the pressure from NBC. Meanwhile, Canyon was hitting from everywhere, mostly in the paint. Their 19-0 run came to an end when Kiera O'Connor made a layup with ten seconds left. The game was totally unsuspected after only a three-point loss in their first match.

Thankfully, the rest of the game was not as one-sided, although Canyon continued to pull away. The turnover was still a problem as the score at the break was 28-8. After three, the deficit moved up to 39-17. On the night the Lady Tigers were 8-24 from the two and 3-20 from the three. A total of 19 turnovers on the night.

Boerne Champion played much the same but were not quite as efficient as Canyon was. They were aggressive and relentless on defense and drove hard to the basket. Their continued pressure on both ends smothered shooting opportunities for the Lady Tigers. Jordan Cox would get the scoring started with a basket at the 6.34 mark for Dripping Springs but that would become the last time they would enjoy a lead on this night. BC went on an 8-0 run in the next two minutes before leading after one 16-8.

The second quarter turned into a carbon copy of one. Corbyn Davis would get a quick basket, followed by a 14-0 run by BC. Emma Smith's pair of free throws with 34 seconds left broke the run as BC led at the break 32-12.

Usually second halves in these games do not maintain the same intensity and this one was no different. Thanks to Cox's work under goal produced three baskets and Davis's pair of threes, the Lady Tigers stayed even as the third ended 46-26. Fouls were prevalent in the fourth but seldom lent themselves to comebacks. Again hampered by low shooting percentages. DS was 10-30 from two and 4-12 from three. Fifteen turnovers did not help.

Vs NBC: Davis 15, Caroline Gamble 4, Chloe Fredenburg 3, O'Connor 3, Teagan Huslig 2, Ally Beck 2, Cox 2.

Vs BC: Davis 13, Cox 10, Beck 6, Gamble 4, Huslig 2, Smith 2, O'Connor 1.

DSMS Lady Tigers Results

Azaria Arnold and Peyton Richards were named 8A Players of the Game, while 8B POG were Abigail Robinson and Ashley Murphy garnered the honors.

8A scoring: Arnold 18, Richards 11, Ellie Hodsden 7, Addison Hunt 3, Brynne Beck 1. Others: Averi Hunt, Katie Newman, Gracie Embry, Bea Furlow, Danielle Rodriguez, Elissa Castillo.
