Basketball winds down for Tigers

The Dripping Springs High School girls basketball season was completed last week, and the final results of the boys regular season finished last Tuesday.

The girls finished with a 13-13 season and 7-9 district and a tie for fifth. The girls were just that close to making the playoffs as they had two, twopoint losses that made the difference.

The final game of the season for the Lady Tigers came at home versus Austin’s Anderson High school. The parents and seniors were honored with ceremonies. Added to the pressure of the game was the goal to break even on the season, something not accomplished in the past two. The 9-13, 9-26 seasons make it tough on returning players. That is why the senior classes are important to programs.

Seven seniors had remained through thick and thin. They were Makynna Hubbard, Linan Scott, Hayden Ely, Kiera O'Connor, Jordan Cox, Anna Rhode and Ambria Rupp. They had the all-important leadership and work ethic needed to push all members of the team to improve and succeed. It helped that members of the team also came from the successful volleyball and softball programs to lend more experience in competing.

It appeared to be a big game for both teams as they were a little tense on the offensive side of the game. Shots just were not falling. However, the key Lady Tigers ingredients of hustle and chasing down rebounds prevailed all night. After one quarter, the Lady Tigers held a slim 6-4 lead, adding to the game pressure. A very slow 6-0 run gave the Lady Tigers a 12-4 margin and a 16-8 halftime lead. Scoring picked up in the second half as the Lady Tigers held onto an uneasy 25-18 lead after three. It was great to see the Lady Tigers really finish off the season in grand style to nail down the thirteenth win with the 42-23 decision.

Scoring the final points of the season were O'Connor 8, Scott 5, Ely 5, Hubbard 4, Megan Hancock 4, Azaria Arnold 4, Rain Collins 3, Kylee Landes 3, Peyton Richards 2, Cox 2, Rupp 2.
