Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor, At the recent Military Appreciation Game between UT and TCU, at Disch-Falk Field in Austin, my wife Janet and I had the super experience to be with Richard Overton. Richard was born in Bastrop County on May 11, 1906. He is 112 years old. He is both the oldest verified U.S. World War Two veteran and the oldest living man in the United States. He was in the Army during World War Two and achieved the rank of Technician 5thGrade. Fortunately, UT won 5-3 in celebration of his attendance! Yeah all the way around…both Overton and the UT team gave a good “Hook ‘em Horns!” Blessings come in different forms. We were blessed with this one.
