DSHS students advance to state in theatrical design

Six Dripping Springs High School students have qualified for the UIL Theatrical Design state competition after submitting designs to a panel of judges related to this year’s theme of Dorothy Louise’s “Frankenstein.”

Advancing to the state competition in Set Design are Natasha Newton and Brooklyn Rice. Competing together in the Group Design category are Rianne Bernhard, Abigail Brown, Molly Gretzinger and Klaire Woods. Students are able to enter the competition as an individual in Set Design, Costume Design, Makeup Design and Marketing Design, or a group of four students can form to design all four categories.

After judge critiques, the state qualifiers make adjustments and resubmit their materials in late April. The UIL Theatrical Design state competition will be held May 2–3 at the Round Rock ISD Performing Arts Center where students will give oral presentations in front of a panel of judges. The work of all state medalists will be on display for the UIL One-Act Play competition later that week.
