Winnie Jean Watkins Puryear

June 16, 1943 - May 29, 2021

Winnie Jean Watkins Puryear, 77, passed away on May 29, 2021 at her home in Dripping Springs, TX after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Jean was born in San Marcos, TX to Carlton and Winnie Watkins on June 16, 1943.

Jean grew up and went to school in San Marcos where she spent much of her time riding horses. Jean later went on to work in the Criminal Investigation Department at the IRS for 34 years where she received numerous awards and she enjoyed her time traveling for work. Jean also taught Sunday school for many years.

Jean met the love of her life, Robert Puryear, in Fredericksburg at the horse races and they spent their early years together traveling and competing in Texas rodeos. They lived in Buda on the Heep Ranch and enjoyed all the blessings of ranch life. Jean especially enjoyed fishing at the numerous stock tanks. Jean cherished her family, spending time with her granddaughters and serving others.

Jean is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Puryear, of Dripping Springs along with her daughter and son-in-law Robin and Jeff Luttrull, granddaughters Caroline, Kylie and Kendall Luttrull, brother Gary Watkins and her sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Ron Kovar

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carlton and Winnie Watkins, her father and mother in-law, Emory and Katie Puryear, and her brother Bobby Watkins.

Pallbearers are Jeff Luttrull, Barry Cunningham, Paul Anderlitch, Larry Dupuy, Kevin Adrian and Jimmy Gaines.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Burrows, Pug Rippy, Worth Simpson, Alford Hill and Doyle Peterson.

Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Dripping Springs on June 4th at 1pm. Burial will follow at Puryear Cemetery in Dripping Springs. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Dripping Springs on June 3rd from 6-8pm.

Harrell Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.
