William Michael Wittenburg

February 2, 1962 - July 27, 2021

William Michael Wittenburg, 59, died July 27, 2021, surrounded by his family at his home in Lampasas, Texas following a short, but valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Mike attended Lometa ISD's elementary, jr. high, and high school and was a member of the LHS 1980 graduating class. He earned a bachelor's degree in business and finance from Southwest Texas State University. Mike's career included leading several residential development and construction companies as the division president for those entities. Anyone who knew Mike experienced his quick wit and love for life. Mike grew up on the family's home place and never lost his love of cattle and a rural lifestyle. He also loved spending time with cherished family and friends. Mike's foundation and values were shaped by his faith and the principles passed down from many generations of his agricultural family.

Mike, the youngest child of Fred Wittenburg, Jr. and Mary Alice (Close) Wittenburg, was born February 2, 1962, in San Saba, Texas. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy (Orwick) Wittenburg; his son, Preston Michael Wittenburg and wife, Amy; daughter, Sarah Michele Wittenburg; grandson, Nolan Michael Wittenburg; sisters, Paula (Wittenburg) Sage and husband, Gary, Mary Anna (Wittenburg) Beard and husband, Jesse; brother, James Mark Wittenburg and wife, Janna; aunts and uncles, William "Bill" and Joyce Wittenburg, Mary Lou and Richard Parmer, Robert and Deborah Wittenburg, Dan and Linda Close; stepchildren, Cassie (Herron) Jones, Courtney Herron, Tyler Herron; numerous nieces, nephews and a close circle of cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Wittenburg, Jr. and Mary Alice (Close) Wittenburg.

Visitation, followed by a Rosary service, will be held Friday, July 30 from 5 pm to 6 pm at his childhood church, Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Lometa, Texas. A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Saturday, July 31 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lampasas with interment to follow at Senterfitt Cemetery in Lometa. Pallbearers will be his brothers-in-law, Gary Sage and Jesse Beard, his nephews, Scott Sage, Jared Beard, and Greg Wittenburg, and dear friend Mike Carroll. Honorary pallbearers are his uncles, Bill Wittenburg, Robert Wittenburg, Richard Parmer, and Dan Close.

Following the interment, a reception for family and friends will be held at the Lometa Good Shepherd Catholic Church Family Life Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Lometa Good Shepherd Catholic Church Building Fund and mailed to 701 N. Key Ave, Lampasas, TX, 76550 or Senterfitt Cemetery Association at 218 S. 6th St, Lometa, TX, 76853
