Don Leslie Spraggins

October 18, 1944 - August 18, 2021

Mr. Don Leslie Spraggins of Fredericksburg passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 76 years of age.

Don Leslie Spraggins was born on October 18, 1944, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Phil and Opal Wright Spraggins. Don graduated from Corpus Christi’s Calallen High School, where he developed a love for playing and watching football. Don left Corpus Christi after graduating high school to attend Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) in Lubbock, Texas. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. Soon after graduation, he married Doris Ahrens on August 12, 1967, in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, Texas. The couple moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where Don began work with Shell Chemical. Later, Don returned to Texas Tech University to earn a Master’s in Agricultural Engineering. Don was a proud alumnus of Texas Tech University. All three of his children earned Bachelor’s degrees from Texas Tech. He also served as President of the Texas Tech Parents Association.

After a brief stint in College Station, Don and Doris moved to Austin, where Don began work with what later became known as the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Don went on to the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) as the Director of Environmental Resources, where he directed the management of all LCRA lakes and parks in Texas. After leaving LCRA, Don consulted for an Environmental Engineering firm in Austin, Texas, before choosing to found his own consulting firm and pursue agriculture and ranching on the Ahrens family ranch in the White Oak community of Gillespie County.

Before moving to Gillespie County, Don and Doris made their home at Dripping Springs, Texas, for over 40 years, where they built a home off of Highway 290 near Trautwein Road in 1975. Don was active in the community serving multiple terms on the Dripping Spring ISD school board and coaching little league baseball.

Don was best known for the unwavering love and support he provided to his family and friends. He also demonstrated an abiding faith in Jesus Christ by faithfully serving in the churches and communities where he lived. Don’s faith and his family will forever be his legacy.
