Swimmers advance to regional meet

Fourteen Dripping Springs High School swimmers qualified for the Region VII-6A Championship after their performances at the District 26-6A Meet on Friday, Jan. 27 at the Round Rock ISD Aquatic Center.

Highlighting the meet for the Tigers was Macie McCurry’s gold medalwinning performance in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.30. McCurry joined Athena Turner, Anna Hoskovec and Laurel Hoskovec to take second place in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Anna Hoskovec also collected a silver medal in the 500 yard freestyle. The four athletes each qualified for the regional meet in four events. Nora Bucher, Peyton Grot-Lopp and Aubrey Reeves were also regional qualifiers.

The girls’ squad totaled 76 points to place third, finishing narrowly behind second-place Austin Anderson by two points. Head coach Michael Hoskovec was named the District 26-6A Coach of the Meet for the girls.

On the boys' side, Wyatt Johnson timed a school-record 21.92 to lead the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Joseph Mowery, Gage Hembree and Nolan Granger to a record-breaking time of 1:28.90 to place second. The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Mowery, Granger, Jordan Ledbetter and Johnson also broke a school record with a time of 3:15.59.

Johnson qualified for regionals in a team-best four events while Hembree and Ledbetter each advanced in three. Zachary Collins, Granger, Charlie Hovatter and Mowery were also regional qualifiers. The Tigers placed fifth as a team with 54 points.

The Region VII-6A Championship will be Feb. 3-4 at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio.
