Library receives $17,500 check from the Friends
Friends of the Dripping Springs Community Library presented a check in the amount of $17,500 to the library. The check is intended for summer youth programs and other un-budgeted items.
In presenting the check, Friends President John Hoag said, “Because of the generous support of the community and hard work of the Friends Board, we were able to match our gift from last year.”
Accepting the check were Library Board Members Derek Smith and Melva Codina. “What a fine donation. I believe the public library to be the heart of the community as it bridges the economic and social gaps in our society for the betterment of our creativity, intellectual growth, and access to great literature,” Smith said.
The Friends Board primarily raised money this year through the annual "Pouring Over Books" event at Prospect House wedding venue and their first ever, gently-used cook book sale, held at Wilson Appliances.
Library Director, Marcia Atilano, wrote, "thank you all for the generous check, which is being spent already as our summer programs are being booked. It will also allow us to purchase un-budgeted items like past technology hardware, Kindles, a camera, a projector, and furniture like our very popular purple couch. Thank you again this year for the generous donation!"
