Women’s Club hosts award winning author Janie Botkin
The Dripping Springs Women’s Club will host award winning author Janie Botkin at their luncheon on Wednesday Oct. 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Terrace Club, 2600 E. Highway 290.
Botkin is a former Dripping Springs High School English teacher who became an acclaimed author with her family biography “The Blood That Stained an American Family.” The book chronicles the life of her great-granduncle, a member of the Industrial Workers of the World Union, who was lynched in 1917 because of his participation in the labor movement that shook the nation.
In her talk, she will share her experiences “unearthing family secrets.” Her eight years spent researching for her book took her to nine states, and included dealings with prairie fires, a tornado, and being hit by a car.
Her book has received numerous national and state awards, including the Western Writers of America Spur Award, which is deemed the most prestigious western literature award in the world.
The Women’s Club is open to all women who live or work in the Dripping Springs area. Reservations for the meeting are requested by Friday, Oct. 12 to [email protected]or by calling 858-361-7297. Luncheon cost is $25.
