VFW commemorates Desert Storm
VFW Post 2933 of Dripping Springs commemorated Operation Desert Storm at its last week’s meeting.
“Part of our function is to remember important past events, and that includes the more recent chapters in our nation’s military history,” VFW Post Commander Ronnie (Shorty) Barnett said. “Desert Storm was a historic success and our members who participated in that effort should be rightly proud of their accomplishments while in service to their country.”
Post member John Pacheco, who served with the 3rdArmored Cavalry during the campaign said, “The two thing I remember the most were getting logistically ready for the ground war in a space of roughly six months, and then moving about 400 tanks approximately 400 kilometers in less than 72 hours to cut off the retreating Republican Guard in Iraq. It was a classic military maneuver. There’s an old military adage, ‘amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics.’”
