Texas VFW celebrates 100 years, Post 2933 commemorates

Dripping Springs Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2933 is celebrating the 100th year of the founding of the Texas VFW. The National VFW has been around since 1899 or about 120 years. The State of Texas organization was founded on April 21, 1921.

Commander Jerry Martin and 20 other Post 2933 members gathered at the Dripping Springs Triangle, in front of the Veterans Memorial Walls and Flagpole, to commemorate the event. The group displayed six military service flags and the POW/MIA flag in front of a lawn sign reading: "TEXAS VFW-100 YEARS SERVING VETS". The sign was placed by Kristin Fain, who owns Sign Gypsy.

Post 2933 was started 27 years ago in 1994. “We started with 25 members and we now have 125 members,” Gary Hale said. “All our members are veterans who have served in Foreign Wars or Conflicts. We welcome any local veterans, who have served, to join us in our organization.”

Post 2933 meets on the Third Thursday of each month at the Vet Hall in Dripping Springs. Soon the post will be moving to the new Patriots Hall to be built on US 290 in the Sunset Canyon area.

The VFW provides full-time support to veterans and their families. The 2.4 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliaries are located in 8,500 VFW Posts around the world.
