Pastor Lonny Poe greets a family during the Family Life Center dedication.

Sunset Canyon Baptist Family Life Center Dedication

On a warm sunny Sunday afternoon, the family of faith at Sunset Canyon Baptist Church, along with the Dripping Springs community, celebrated the dedication of the church’s new, 20,000 square foot Family Life Center. Pastor Lonny Poe led the short dedication ceremony with a brief history of Sunset Canyon Baptist Church before inviting everyone to touch the building as he prayed for God’s blessings. The dedication was followed by lunch, catered by Pig Pen and Raza’s Food Shack Tacos, tours of the new facility, and fellowship among the attendees.

The new facility has been in the planning phase for 8 years, took 3 years of diligent fund raising, and was a huge sacrifice of time, talent and treasure from the members of the Sunset Canyon Baptist Church family of faith. It features 12 Classrooms, a Nursery, a Toddler Room, a 5,000 square foot Gymnasium, and a 1200 square foot Multi-purpose Room.

It will be used to support church activities, such as Vacation Bible School, Preschool, and Mother’s Day Out, and may be used for various community activities like Boy and Girl Scouts and Town Hall Meetings.

The Family Life Center is constructed of a hybrid structural system including wood frame and steel. The exterior is predominantly Texas Limestone to match the existing church building, and there is an abundance of glass to allow natural lighting to permeate the spaces. The building interior has warm, soft colors reminiscent of the colors of the Hill Country. The mechanical system is a stateof-the-art variable refrigerant flow system that is the most efficient system available, while the lighting systems are all state-of-the-art LED fixtures with electronic touchscreen controls.
