SSMS Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Bands honored

Two of Sycamore Springs Middle School's performing musical groups from the 2019-20 school year have been recognized by the Foundation for Music Education. While the performances took place early last spring, the SSMS music program just recently learned of the honors.

The SSMS Wind Ensemble was selected as a "Mark of Excellence Commended Winner" in the National Wind Band results for Class A; Jana Galloway served as the conductor. The Mark of Excellence project seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by high school and middle school bands, choirs and orchestras. The project gathers entries from throughout the United States and provides valuable feedback for all entrants.

The SSMS Symphonic Band under the direction of Tamarie Sayger was selected as a "Citation of Excellence Commended Winner" in Class AA. The Citation of Excellence project seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by non-varsity high school and middle school Texas bands.

Only seven bands in each category from across the United States were chosen to be honored at each level. The top 25 percent of entrants in each category are recognized as National Winners, with the second 25 percent named as Commended Winners. The award is given by the Foundation for Music Education, an organization that is dedicated to the support and advancement of music education.
